The following list will give you some idea about the many factors affecting window price.

What the current windows are made of

Steel windows
Steel window extraction is the most difficult. Many saw blades and many hours are used to cut them out of the home. If the steel windows are installed behind brick it is even more difficult. A ballpark number for labor and material in this situation is close to $200.00 per window.
Typically you will have a lot of new wood trim on the inside to paint and stain. Vinyl trim that is pre-painted can be substituted for an additional cost.

Aluminum windows
Aluminum window extraction is very similar to steel window extraction. The main difference is that you are cutting through a much softer window material. Hence the time required to do the job is reduced. The typical cost for labor and materials is around $135.00.

Vinyl windows
Vinyl window replacement is much the same as aluminum but the pace is a little faster. The cost for labor and materials for this type of window is about $95.00.

Wood windows
This is the most common and least expensive. Depending on size the cost of installation will be around $75.00 for labor and material.

Size and style
Size matters. We are charged by our suppliers based on United Inch which is the width and height added together. The bigger the window the more it costs.

Style of windows can sometimes affect price considerably. Bay and bow windows are much more expensive than three light sliders. Casement or crank out windows are more expensive than double hung’s.

Standard size or custom size
Standard size windows are typically the least expensive initially. However, if you are using them in a replacement window application you may end up paying a lot more in the end. Standard size windows require that you modify the house to fit the window, this can get very expensive. Custom made windows are more expensive initially but far less invasive and usually less expensive in the end. Bottom line; don’t use a standard size window in a replacement application and don’t use a replacement window in a new construction application.

Window options
If you keep it simple it will be less expensive. White vinyl single hung windows with low-e and argon installed with aluminum capping is a price point winner. They look good, function well, and cost about $350.00 for an average sized window including installation.

Take it up a notch and get two tone grids, the highest performing triple pane glass, krypton gas, split color (one for the inside and one for the outside) and you can double the cost.

Go to a casement fiberglass window with custom split color (one for the inside and one for the outside) add the triple pane with krypton with matching trim interior you can triple the cost.

Take a tilt turn window with a clad exterior and mahogany interior with the best performing glass and you now have a $1,500.00 window.
