Vinyl Window Pros

Vinyl Window Cons

  • Can be the least expensive choice

  • Vinyl is an inherently weak material. Strength must be designed into the window.

  • Vinyl window frames have the color running clear through the material. Minor scratches can be sanded out.

  • Vinyl windows expand and contract with temperature changes. The less expensive models have operational problems as a result. Hard to open or close, drafty, etc.

  • Vinyl material has proven to be extremely maintenance free

  • In general, there are more limited color choices with vinyl windows.
  • Good insulating properties

  • Vinyl never needs to be painted

For some frame explanations see below:

Frames:

Hollow Vinyl Window Frames: This is the most common vinyl window offered. Hollow vinyl windows look similar to nicer windows but lack one key property... STRENGTH. Hollow replacement windows tend to warp, bow, bend and break especially in the extreme climate within Michigan and Northern Indiana. However if you need a temporary solution or plan on moving soon this window is an excellent value.

Metal Reinforced Window Frames: Our minimum recommendation for replacement windows Michigan and Indiana customers would put in their homes. Our ever changing climates requires our windows have some sort of reinforcement whether aluminum or steel this is a must.

Foam Filled Window Frames: Some window companies are inserting foam into the frames of their windows, both to make them more energy efficient and add structure. While they can do both they certainly aren't quite the strength a metal reinforced window will give you.

Fiberglass Reinforced Window Frames: If you want something very efficient and strong this is it. . Really the best advantages of foam and metal. For more information please visit out composite window section.
